Peter Arth
Laboratory & Technical Director

Peter Arth leads all laboratory, business, technical, and project management activities at Nautilus Environmental, Inc., and he brings extensive testing and consulting expertise in environmental toxicology and a commitment to scientific excellence. His technical work spans freshwater, marine, and terrestrial environments, and he has successfully directed toxicological programs for a diverse range of commercial, industrial, governmental, and academic clients. Peter emphasizes strategic collaboration, clear project goals, and cost-effective solutions rooted in sound experimental design and uncompromising data quality.

Peter specializes in Toxicity Identification and Reduction Evaluations (TIE/TRE) in both water and sediment, playing a key role in developing and refining toxicity testing methods and procedures as well as providing customized and unique approaches to address complex challenges. Peter’s project design and technical consulting also encompasses ecotoxicological risk assessments and applications of toxicity testing to site-specific circumstances, and he is active in regulatory affairs for NPDES permit holders across multiple geographies.  Peter holds a B.S. in Environmental Systems from the University of California, San Diego.

Katie Payne
Program Manager

Katie Payne has held a diversity of roles in ecotoxicity laboratory services, including bench testing, project management, quality assurance, operations management, and business development. This broad experience provides her with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, operational, and practical aspects of environmental toxicity testing.

As Program Manager at Nautilus Environmental, Inc., Katie designs, implements, and optimizes laboratory programs and service offerings through close collaboration with technical staff, clients, and regulatory agencies. Her leadership is instrumental in guiding complex programs to ensure high-quality results, regulatory compliance, and exceptional service as well as fostering staff development across the team. Katie also remains an active contributor to the scientific and regulatory community, participating in multiple collaborative organizations and professional associations. She holds a B.A. in Biology and Economics from the University of San Diego and an M.P.H. from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Barbara Orelo
Project Manager

Given the start of her tenure with a solid foundation in the laboratory, Barbara Orelo brings a strong technical knowledge and practical approach to project management. She is currently responsible for client services focused on the NPDES sector, managing POTW, industrial, groundwater, stormwater, and ambient monitoring programs for municipal and private clients.

Her expertise also extends to oversight and execution of complex toxicity programs, special projects, TIEs, and product evaluations. She is well versed in permit review, logistics coordination, data analysis, and authoring technical reports, and she routinely serves as a technical consultant and advisor to clients. She strives to achieve excellence in the areas of technical data quality and on-time report turnaround. Barbara holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego. She’s also an avid dog lover, just ask!

Kasey Skrivseth
Program Manager

Kasey Skrivseth brings a wealth of knowledge to the Nautilus Environmental, Inc. project management team by leading our sediment and soil toxicity testing programs. His prior experience in lab, field, and research settings has uniquely prepared him to provide oversight and support implementation of complex programs for dredge material analysis, risk assessment, ambient monitoring, and various other research goals. He is intimately familiar with USEPA, ASTM, and USACE methodologies and has significant experience with applying these methods over a wide range of projects, including sediment TIEs.

Kasey provides not only thoughtful technical expertise but also hands-on support and training to laboratory staff to execute projects to the required specifications. He also works with several clients in the NPDES sector, many of which are overseas and require advanced logistical support.  Kasey received a B.S. in Zoology from Washington State University.  He enjoys spending much of his free time in nature with his two kids, and he has a cat named Bing.

Kira LaFace
Project Manager

Kira LaFace developed a strong foundation in the laboratory, and she now brings a thoughtful and detail-oriented approach to project management. She is currently responsible for client services focused on the NPDES sector, managing POTW, industrial, groundwater, and ambient monitoring programs for municipal and private clients.

Her responsibilities include permit review, project scoping, logistics coordination, data analysis and review, as well as authoring technical reports.  She’s also experienced working with international clients and provides support for our sediment toxicity testing projects.  Kira holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Marine Biology from the University of California, San Diego.  Outside of work, Kira likes to frequent the beach with her dog Puffin.
