Quality Assurance & Quality Control
Nautilus Environmental is committed to a standard of excellence in bioassay testing. Our laboratory implements a comprehensive and detailed Quality Assurance (QA) Program for all aspects of laboratory operations.
Our program is designed to:
- Ensure testing complies with applicable regulations and guidelines
- Enhance test performance and precision
- Generate high-quality, legally-defensible data
The QA Program is broken down into multiple systems, all of which are monitored by a full-time Quality Assurance & Compliance Manager. QA systems include:
- Standard operating procedures
- Management of change
- Documentation of protocol deviations and corrective actions
- Equipment and facility maintenance
- Technical staff training
- Data generation and handling
We strive to minimize, identify, and correct testing errors or anomalies before they affect the final test outcome. Quality control (QC) practices and procedures have been established to address activities such as sample handling, water quality and test conditions, organism health, and equipment calibration. All test data are reviewed daily by the technical staff for completeness and accuracy.
Nautilus is currently accredited in accordance with the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) by the State of Oregon Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program. It is also certified by the State of California Water Resources Control Board Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) and the State of Washington Department of Ecology. Specific fields of testing applicable to each accrediting agency are available upon request. Each state conducts routine audits of the laboratory facilities, procedures, and quality assurance methods and documentation. In addition, we participate in the annual federal Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) QA Study, testing blind samples using United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) procedures, program-specific round-robin events, and are audited by select clients and third-party representatives.
